The School was attended by scientists from the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian and Belarusian universities, public educational organizations, as well as students from Belarus, Armenia and Russia, including from new regions, who presented student projects.
As part of the School, the director of the festival “Eurasia.DOC” Valery Shekhovtsov made a presentation of the multimedia project “Belarus. Story”. In his speech, the project manager spoke about the different stages of its implementation – from conception to promotion.
“Belarus. History” – a series of short animated videos dedicated to famous personalities. Each mini-film is based on reliable facts, which are presented in an easy and entertaining way. The project represents a new format for popularizing history. His presentation aroused great interest among School participants, along with educational comics, video games and documentaries.
During the work of the School, historians gave open lectures to students and young people, talking about the basics of the work of a historian (archival search, source study), as well as the most common myths and misconceptions about the history of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. Public discussions and round tables devoted to issues of historical memory and countering the falsification of history in the post-Soviet space turned out to be lively.
The School of Historical and Publicistic Excellence was organized by the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Russian Historical Memory Foundation with the support of the Interstate Fund for State Cooperation of the CIS Countries. Based on the results of the School, the Historical Memory Foundation decided to support a number of archival and publishing projects on the history of the countries of the post-Soviet space.
